Oxford's premier alternative charity bash, Rabidfest 2026, storms The Bullingdon across Halloween weekend for an uncompromising, two-day blitz of heavy metal, rap-metal and hard rock. Presented in partnership with Devolution Magazine, this independent gathering pulls underground touring heavyweights alongside fierce emerging acts to raise vital funds for The Sophie Lancaster Foundation. With a stacked lineup led by genre-blending titans Hacktivist and featuring the likes of n0trixx, Lesbian Bed Death, The Crawling, Novacrow, BLDSUGR!, The Dead XIII and Maatkare, it stands as the loudest, most cathartic musical event taking over east Oxford this autumn.

Riffs, Breakdown Beats and Monster Riffs

Expect thick distortion, pummeling kick drums and the unmistakable smell of stage smoke rolling out through the double doors onto Cowley Road from early afternoon until well into the night. Hacktivist deliver their furious signature hybrid of grime-fuelled dual vocal delivery and eight-string djent grooves, built to fracture floorboards and send the room into synchronized bouncing. Goth-punk dynamos Lesbian Bed Death bring high-camp theatrics, infectious choruses and theatrical bite, while Northern Irish doom outfit The Crawling drag the tempo down into suffocating, atmospheric gloom. Between sets from Novacrow, Dacara, Swarm6ix, Rattlesnakes and Devilhusk, the front bar functions as an ongoing decompression chamber where attendees dissect setlist surprises over cold pints before diving back through the blackout curtains into the pit.

Spikes, Charity and Pure Subculture

Despite the crushing decibels and fierce guitar chugs, Rabidfest remains one of the warmest, most inclusive gatherings on the regional circuit. The crowd is a dedicated patchwork of denim battle vests, studded leather, corpse paint and Halloween costumes, united by a zero-tolerance ethos toward intolerance and hate. Proceeds from advance weekend wristbands and single-day passes funnel straight into The Sophie Lancaster Foundation, keeping the event firmly rooted in community solidarity and positive action. Between band turnarounds, gig-goers, local musicians and visiting fans linger shoulder-to-shoulder near the merch tables, trading patch recommendations and catching up with familiar faces from festival circuits across the UK.

Know Before You Go

  • Beat the door crush by showing up right as entry begins at 12:15, which gives you prime position to catch early opening sets and secure limited-edition festival merchandise before popular sizes sell out.
  • Cowley Road gets congested and street parking is heavily restricted, so leave the car behind and take the frequent bus links from Oxford railway station or St Aldates directly to the venue stop.
  • Ear protection is vital: the sound system inside The Bullingdon packs serious low-end weight in a confined, low-ceilinged space, so bring reliable musician plugs.
  • Tickets are available in both single-day and full-weekend passes via the official Rabidfest website, with early purchase strongly recommended before allocation caps out.
  • The venue operates an 18+ policy for festival sessions, so carry valid physical photo ID for door verification.

Make a Weekend of It

Fuel up before the early-afternoon wall of noise by securing a table down the street at Antep Kitchen, where charcoal-grilled lamb shish, warm lavash and spiced dips offer substantial sustenance for a long day in the pit. If you are tracking what else is shaking along east Oxford's gig strip, peer at the upcoming touring schedule at the historic O2 Academy Oxford just a few doors away, or take in an afternoon football fixture down at the Kassam Stadium if you are making an extended sporting weekend of it. When the final feedback rings out on Sunday, wander over to the city centre for a relaxed late lunch at Quod Restaurant & Bar, or cross town into historic Jericho to unwind over fireside craft beers at The Jericho.

Grab your earplugs, support the cause, and I'll catch you down the front for the breakdowns. — Alyssa, WhatsOn Oxford
