A unique Oxford experience awaits within a building originally constructed in 1594, now home to the Museum Residence Oxford. This boutique hotel thoughtfully preserves its historical charm, with some late 16th-century features like fireplaces still intact within the much-altered structure. Guests can enjoy the blend of this rich heritage with modern comforts, including free Wi-Fi, an elegant shared lounge, and even a 24-hour Barista grade coffee machine offering various beverages. The hotel promotes an innovative, independent stay with a keyless, automated check-in system, though staff are always just a call away, ensuring a seamless blend of historic ambience and contemporary convenience.
Nestled in New Inn Yard on Saint Aldate's, the Museum Residence Oxford is exceptionally positioned for exploring the city, just a very short walk from the Carfax Tower, effectively the centre of Oxford. Iconic landmarks such as Christ Church college, the historic Covered Market, and the Ashmolean Museum are all within easy walking distance. The hotel is also conveniently located opposite the Museum of Oxford. This prime location means that the University's famous colleges, libraries like the Bodleian, and the picturesque River Cherwell, popular for punting, are readily accessible, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in Oxford’s unique atmosphere.

Absolutely awful. Massively overpriced.
The entrance was through a back door located down a dingy alleyway right next to a taxi rank/betting shop.
Hallway was dirty, carpet was ripped and it stank to high heaven!
Aircon didn’t work, Room was tiny, sheets had stains, towels had stains. The “executive lounge” that is apparently stocked with a variety of complimentary snacks and soft drinks, is nothing but a room with a fridge and bottled water.
No hot water, had to call the receptionist who didn’t call back but rather sent a text to say it ‘should’ be working in 20minutes.
Had to open windows as again, no air con. Then of course not a good nights sleep due to the noise from the taxi rank below.
It was honestly shocking and HUGELY different than advertised on the website.
I would avoid air b&b trying to disguise itself as a beautiful, artistic hotel.
This was needlessly stressful and a waste of time for all parties involved. I'm waiting to hear back from the staff to see if they'll willingly refund my deposit since they violated the guaranteed check-in time of their stated policy before I escalate this with my bank. Beware.
I sought assistance from a nearby pub and a taxi service, who directed me to a nondescript black door with a barely visible sign indicating the hotel’s name. I was informed that access required a code and that there was no reception available. I spent over an hour wandering around in the middle of the night, repeatedly trying to reach someone at the hotel, to no avail. I would have never imagined that a 4-star hotel would offer such a poor experience.
After exhausting all efforts, I had no choice but to roam around the City of Oxford late at night, searching for an alternative place to stay. I was turned away by four hotels before finally securing a room at a nearby establishment. I am now writing this note 1 am in the morning when I should have been resting for tomorrow’s activities, especially after a long day of travel from the North.
This has been an incredibly distressing and exhausting ordeal. I sincerely hope no one else has to endure such an experience.
