GSH is in an unbeatable location, in the heart of Oxford. It is close to lots of great pubs, restaurants, and shopping. It’s walkable to every tourist site and university location. I would give it more stars if I could.
However, the above attributes do not equate to a 5* experience. For that you need other facilities like a bar, restaurant, and comfortable reception area. Furthermore, the service at reception was chaotic
Putting the rating to one side however and considering the price in central Oxford I would recommend this hotel however. Price and experience are conducive to a 4 star hotel
There is no breakfast area in the hotel, and they try to direct you to a partnered restaurant. The bed wasn’t even a double. To make matters worse, we found bugs in the room. We are extremely disappointed and feel utterly scammed. Everything was below standard. Avoid this place at all costs.
Sam and Davina were beyond friendly. Sam was able to checked me in early, allowing me to rest and refresh after a long day's travel. Davina provided excellent and enticing recommendations, planting seeds for my future visit. I cannot wait to return!
The front window is boarded up, reception is on first floor via lift or stairs.
Once inside the hotel it's a different story, lovely architecture, and rooms are lovely.
The bathroom has a lovely rainfall shower, and plenty of tea and coffee supplied and nice biscuits.
The disappointment for me was the incompetence of reception staff.
After my four day stay from the 24th to 28th of May,
Apparently I never stayed there!
Upon checking out, and receiving a ticket when they stored my luggage, on arrival back at the hotel to collect my luggage.
They said they had no reservation for me to check in. This felt like it was done purposely.
I was a well behaved guest who never caused any problems for staff.
Next time I'm in Oxford I'll book a hotel that appreciates my custom.
