This building, which has welcomed guests since at least 1605 and was converted to a hotel in 1899-1900, is steeped in local lore and literary connections; J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis were reportedly regular visitors. Today, the hotel blends its rich past with contemporary comforts, offering 81 rooms, including family rooms and those with accessibility features. The Oxford Botanic Garden is also nearby, offering a tranquil escape. For shopping and refreshment, the High Street itself presents a variety of independent shops and cafes, while the historic Covered Market is just a brief walk away. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Any issues or requests they were quick to action. There was a queue to get into our room and we were offered coffee whilst we waited. I was so impressed that the staff cared about their guests so much. Our room was very nice , the sheets and bed are wonderful. We slept like babies! I also liked that the hotel was in a good central location close to shops and sight seeing. I would definitely recommend.
We did park up at the Redbridge park and ride and caught the bus into town (10 minutes) and it saved us a small fortune in parking fees. Thank you for the lovely stay.
