In warmer weather, the experience extends with al fresco seating directly on Broad Street.
The Store itself is a destination, formerly the beloved Boswells department store, now a luxury hotel that blends its rich nearly 300-year legacy with contemporary design. Beyond the ground-floor bar, visitors can also experience The Roof, a fifth-floor rooftop bar and terrace (strictly over 21s) that provides stunning panoramic views of Oxford's famous dreaming spires and the surrounding countryside. This rooftop spot features its own charcoal grill and smoker, serving American barbecue-style dishes and unique cocktails. The hotel is beautifully styled with so much character and attention to detail. The room was immaculate, and the personalised touches and little comments from the team made us feel truly special.
Every meal was delicious, and the service throughout was faultless.
The rooftop bar is a fantastic space, whether you want to relax inside or enjoy the view outside.

We had interconnecting rooms, which were incredible – beautifully designed and ideal for a family stay. Our little ones especially loved the thoughtful touches like the mini gowns, slippers, and chocolates, which made them feel extra special.
The location is perfect for exploring Oxford – we enjoyed wandering around the nearby shops and spent a lovely afternoon at the Natural History Museum, which is just a short walk away.
We had dinner booked at Treadwell, and the experience was outstanding. The staff could not have done more for us. Everyone was incredibly friendly and accommodating. The children were happily entertained drawing pictures inspired by the beautiful artwork on the walls, giving us a chance to relax and enjoy our meal. I’m still dreaming of the crab tacos, and my husband declared it the best burger he’s ever had!
As frequent travellers who stay in a lot of city hotels, I can be quite particular about bed comfort – but The Store gets a solid 10/10. We all slept brilliantly. Breakfast the next morning was just as impressive, with both buffet and à la carte options. The kids loved being able to choose their favourites, and once again, the staff were wonderfully attentive and kind.
