Details

A seventeenth-century pub, The White Hart at 12 St Andrew's Road in Old Headington offers a journey into Oxford's rich past. Believed to have once been an inn known as "Joan of Headington's" in the 1600s, it was a favoured destination for academics venturing from the city into the countryside. Today, this Grade II listed building retains some of its original panelling and doors, inviting you to enjoy its historic charm. It's known locally for an impressive selection of around ten different award-winning pies, including steak and ale, wild mushroom and asparagus, plus vegan and gluten-free choices. This historic pub also boasts a reputation for its excellent range of real ales and craft beers, having featured in the Good Beer Guide for ten consecutive years and winning Oxford CAMRA Pub of the Year in 2014 and 2017.

Step through to the rear and discover what many consider one of the best pub gardens in Oxford – a large, walled, south-facing sun trap complete with Cotswold stone stables. This leafy beer garden provides a perfect setting to relax with a pint or a glass of wine, especially during the warmer months. The pub maintains a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, whether you're warming by the open fire in winter or enjoying the vibrant garden in summer. It’s a true village local within the Old Headington conservation area, offering a welcoming atmosphere just a stone's throw from the busier parts of Headington. Traditional pub food, including their popular Sunday roasts, complements the extensive drink selection, ensuring a satisfying visit.
