Sourdough doughnut specialists Crosstown have brought their signature treats to 3 St Michael's Mansion on Ship Street, a welcome sight for anyone with a sweet tooth. This award-winning brand, which started as a London market stall in 2014, is famed for being the first to create sourdough doughnuts and has since expanded with numerous locations. Their Oxford store, a permanent fixture since September 2022, offers the full Crosstown experience, from fresh doughnuts and small-batch ice cream to cookies, chocolate, and specialty coffee. You can enjoy your treats inside, grab them to go, or even opt for on-demand delivery to your doorstep in under an hour. They are open seven days a week, typically from 8am to 8pm.

Visitors to the Ship Street store will find an extensive array of inventive doughnut flavours, with a particularly strong offering for vegans. Popular choices include the Tongan Vanilla Bean Glaze, Dark Chocolate Truffle, and more adventurous options like vegan Lavender Crème Brûlée or Jasmine & Rhubarb. Beyond doughnuts, Crosstown serves handmade cookies and their own small-batch ice cream, making it a comprehensive dessert destination. The store is praised for its friendly staff and pleasant atmosphere, providing a comfortable spot to relax with a coffee and a premium treat. While known for quality, be aware that some find the doughnuts to be on the pricier side.

Overall a very mediocre experience. We had three donuts and, though richly filled, there was not enough flavour to warrant the high price. Texturally, they also did not taste like what you should expect from a well-made donut. Give it a try, if you want, but don’t believe the hype. Overpriced for a product that does not deliver. The coffee was much better than expected, it has to be said, and the atmosphere is nice.
