Details

A visit to 48 Thames Street in Oxford offers a delightful immersion into Senegambian cuisine at Taste Of Banjul. This takeaway spot brings the rich, flavourful dishes of West Africa to the city, with a menu highlighting traditional meals. You can anticipate popular Gambian specialities such as Domoda, a hearty peanut stew often considered the national dish, and Yassa, a zesty lemon and onion-based dish typically served with chicken or fish. Other offerings might include Chicken Jollof Rice, lamb chops, and sides like plantain or spicy fried rice. It's an opportunity to experience authentic West African cooking, known for its generous use of spices and fresh ingredients, right in the heart of Oxford.

Gambian cuisine centres around a few key staples, with rice featuring prominently in many meals, often served with flavourful stews. Peanuts are another cornerstone, most notably in the creamy and satisfying Domoda. Expect dishes built on layers of flavour, incorporating ingredients like tomatoes, onions, chilli, and various vegetables, often slow-cooked to perfection. Fish is also very common, given the Gambia's coastal location. Whether you opt for a "Snack Pack Combo" or a "Family Feast," the menu at Taste Of Banjul is designed to provide a true taste of Gambian hospitality through its comforting and aromatic food.
