The expansive Harry Ramsden's on East Beach, reputedly the world's largest fish and chip restaurant with 420 seats, has been a Bournemouth landmark for generations, serving its famous fare since 1928. Following a significant £1.5 million refurbishment, the restaurant now showcases restored original features like floor-to-ceiling windows with stained glass, and elevated tables at the rear offering prime views of the beach and pier. The renovation also brought the previously unused beach-level arches into play as an additional dining space and introduced a new gelateria, perfectly positioned for those enjoying Undercliff Drive, a historic promenade stretching from Bournemouth to Boscombe Pier that first opened in 1914.
Inside, the decor takes cues from the original Guiseley branch, featuring lavish art-deco style detailing that creates a warm, inviting atmosphere. While loyal customers can still enjoy the classic, sustainably sourced fish coated in a top-secret batter with fluffy British potatoes, the menu has also evolved. Alongside traditional alternatives like freshly baked pie of the day and wholetail scampi, there's a nod to modern tastes with a wider selection of burgers, including cod, chicken, and halloumi, plus a new range of wines and cocktails. Whether you opt for table service in the main restaurant, a casual meal on the outdoor terrace, or a quick takeaway to enjoy by the sea, Harry Ramsden's aims to continue its legacy of quality and quintessential British seaside dining.

The chips were undercooked and pale.
The mushy peas portion was tiny!
We also had two medium cod and regular chips with one regular soda. The bill came to just over £32. Way too much in my honest opinion!
