I ordered a classic margarita and 2 tacos as part of their Taco Tuesday deal. The Margarita was phenomenal; it was an extraordinary balance of sweet, tart, and salty. I've since had other margaritas at other bars, and nothing compares in the slightest.
The corn tortillas were beautiful. They have a wonderful depth of flavour, far more complex and interesting to the standard ones you see in most places. They had an almost buttery like texture, despite not being made with lard that is quite common in Mexico.
I had the nopales taco and the mushroom taco. The nopales taco was nice, but I felt the cactus had been overcooked and had no bite to it. With the refried beans and soft tortilla, everything was a bit one textured, and I was wanting a crunch.
The mushroom taco was better with a bit of crema that balanced out the flavours. However, again, I wanted a contrast, like a raw or pickled onion, crumbled up tortilla chips or something tempura.
Both I wanted to be spicier. I do have a high chilli tolerance, so maybe it's perfect for others, and I've just obliterated my taste buds.
This might sound like I'm being critical, but genuinely, I did love this place, and I would return, both for drinks and food. They've recently opened, so I can't wait to see how they bring a bit of Mexico to Oxford.
The best tacos and cocktails, the spicy margaritas are incredible and £2.5 a taco is such great value for something that tastes this good, fresh & homemade. If you’re looking for a chill, fun spot then this is it!!!
Staff were lovely :)
