Found at 38 Abingdon Road, The Slow and Steady is a Dodo pub that has quickly become a fantastic addition to Oxford's local scene, easily accessible from the city centre. Its name pays homage to Henry Hare, the architect who also designed Oxford Town Hall, and this historical nod is woven throughout the pub with a charming hare and tortoise motif. The interior has undergone a stunning transformation, honouring the building's original architecture while infusing it with Dodo's distinctive and inviting vibe, featuring bright spaces, vibrant neon signs, and welcoming tables. With a beautifully revamped large patio area at the rear and side, it's an ideal spot to relax and soak up the atmosphere, whatever the weather, reflecting a strong sense of community and a place to enjoy life at your own pace.
Upstairs, the 'library,' partly lined with books, offers a unique space that can be hired and has been enhanced with table football and other games, adding to the fun. The pub also boasts a games arcade with classic machines, ensuring entertainment for all. Food-wise, expect Dodo's popular menu of Neapolitan style wood-fired pizzas with dough slow-risen for 48 hours, and delicious burgers made with 100% prime cuts of dry-aged beef, all served with rosemary fries as standard. Look out for their unique Marmite, chilli, and hot honey flatbread for a taste sensation. The Slow and Steady also hosts regular events like pub quizzes and offers brunch on weekends, making it a lively hub any day of the week.
