Details

A welcoming log fire crackles in the hearth of The Butchers Arms, a traditional real ale pub tucked away on Wilberforce Street in Headington. This recently refurbished gem is a haven for those who appreciate Fuller's Master Cellarman-accredited ales and a friendly atmosphere. It’s the kind of place where locals and visitors alike can unwind, whether that's with a pint after exploring nearby Bury Knowle Park or the famed Headington Shark. The pub is known for its warm welcome, extending to children and dogs, making it a true community hub. Regulars often praise the attentive staff and the genuine, charming feel of this classic British local. With quiz nights and occasional live music, there's often a lively buzz.

Step into the surprisingly spacious single room, where the bar takes centre stage, or venture out to the paved beer garden when the Oxford sun makes an appearance. The Butchers Arms serves up simple, yet satisfying British cuisine, with a menu that includes perfectly cooked mushroom pizza, classic fish and chips, and hearty meat pies. You might also find tempting options like burgers, including a crispy halloumi version, and delightful desserts such as warm chocolate brownies or a traditional cheeseboard. While some reviews note periods where food service was unavailable or you could bring your own, the pub's own website details a fairly extensive menu, ensuring there’s something to accompany your chosen tipple.

My first visit to this little hidden gem of a pub!
They had a Jazz night which proved to be very popular for a Monday night.
Unfortunately they don't serve food but uniquely you are more than welcome to bring your own or order in and have food delivered! Plates and cutlery will be provided on request.

Offering a good choice of real Ales I was served by Emma who was so friendly and welcoming.

I'm really looking forward to my next visit. Cheers 🍻
