Two real ales on tap and the welcoming glow of a genuine fire greet you at The Victoria, a traditional tavern nestled in the charming Jericho neighbourhood. This "anti-gastro pub" prides itself on a fuss-free, classic British pub experience, a world away from brewery-owned chains. Renowned for its pies, you'll find golden shortcrust pastry packed with rich flavours like steak and ale, alongside comforting vegetarian options and a vegan choice with a smoky red wine filling. The quirky interior, sometimes featuring a model plane suspended from the ceiling or kooky pictures, adds to its unpretentious and cosy atmosphere, complete with low lighting and squishy sofas perfect for settling in. It's a place that successfully blends a smart, stylish feel with intimate corners, making it a welcoming refuge.

Beyond the comforting indoors, The Victoria boasts a much-praised heated garden, offering a year-round retreat, and a front terrace ideal for watching the world go by on vibrant Walton Street. This outdoor space is considered by some to be the best in the area. The pub's convenient location makes it an easy stop while exploring Jericho, known as a new going-out strip in Oxford. Recently refurbished to enhance its cosy corners, including a new snug area, The Victoria maintains its friendly vibe and commitment to good drinks, from craft beers to a selection of over 100 whiskies. Whether you're after a hearty meal, a perfectly poured pint, or a space to unwind with friends, this spot delivers a quality pub feel in the city.

The beer garden was lovely and it was nice and chill. The beer and food was alright, somehow I remembered it to be better before the menu changed.
It took almost 40min for the food to be served and I got the wrong side. But it’s okay as we’ve still enjoyed our meal.

It's almost become a routine to come here on a Sunday morning with my mum, for a pie, a pint (of Diet Coke) and (half) a game of Scrabble. During our most recent visit, the friendly young man behind the bar even changed the music at her request. The food is great, and there's a selection of board games, should it tickle your fancy. Reliable, consistent, and delicious!

This was my favourite pub in the world with its beautiful wood panelling, but it lost much charm in its 2025 remodel.

The staff is wondeful and they surely meant well but some decor tweaks need to be made to recover its previously magnificent, warm, and timeless appeal. I think a change in lighting would make a tremendous difference because it's now glaringly bright.

Unfortunately with the remodel, instead of genuine old timeless charm, the Vic is starting to look like the oldness is just a theme. It's starting to look like when chain pubs have a kitschy old theme. An old style is very different than having a theme of oldness. The wood panelling has been covered up by snakeskin and blond wood trim; the glass lamps replaced with modern brass ones; and the beautiful candlelit ambiance is drowned out by bright lighting. Much might be forgiven or overlooked if the lighting wasn't so distractingly bright. Even the outdoor string lights are very bright essentially putting the porch on a spotlight for the whole street. Some of the bulbs are also far too cool like office lighting. I miss the warm, cosy atmosphere it had before.

On the positive side, the traditional wood games are a nice touch.

Located in the charming neighborhood of Jericho, Oxford, The Victoria Pub is a delightful traditional tavern that offers a warm and inviting atmosphere. With two real ales on tap and a cozy real fire, it perfectly captures the essence of a classic British pub. The pub serves simple yet satisfying pub food, making it an excellent spot for a casual meal.

One of the standout features of The Victoria is its heated garden, which becomes an ideal retreat during the summer months, especially after 4 pm. The garden's comfortable seating and pleasant ambiance provide a relaxing setting to enjoy a drink outdoors.

The pub's interior is well-decorated, enhancing its inviting and homely feel. With a large selection of beers available, beer enthusiasts will find plenty to appreciate. Overall, The Victoria Pub is a wonderful spot to unwind, offering great ales, good food, and a perfect mix of indoor and outdoor spaces.

Food, beer, and atmosphere were all decent, though we were a little put off by having made an online reservation only to be stuck in a back room next to the dishwasher. (There are other tables available, so we moved.) Staff seemed a bit gruff in general but perhaps it was a busy night.
