Details

Nestled on St Aldate's, a stone's throw from Carfax, the historic heart of Oxford, The Old Tom has been a beloved watering hole for both city dwellers and university scholars since the late 17th century. Its name is a nod to Great Tom, the famous bell in the nearby Tom Tower of Christ Church, which uniquely chimes 101 times each evening at 9:05 PM. This pub offers a truly distinctive experience, seamlessly blending the cosy, traditional atmosphere of an old English tavern with an unexpected and delightful array of authentic Thai cuisine. You'll find it directly opposite Christ Church, making it an unmissable stop as you explore the historic street.

Inside The Old Tom, you're greeted with a space that expertly marries old-world pub charm with the vibrant flavours of the East. The menu boasts an extensive selection of traditional Thai recipes, prepared with fresh spices, pastes, vegetables, and herbs sourced directly from Thailand. Popular choices include flavourful curries like Green, Panang, and Massaman, as well as classic noodle dishes such as Pad Thai. For those seeking something different, a few Japanese dishes also feature, alongside traditional pub classics, ensuring there's a taste for every palate. Whether you're settling in for a hearty meal or enjoying their range of Greene King ales, The Old Tom provides a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

I had the chicken wings and crispy pork belly at the Old Tom pub in Oxford and they were both fantastic. The chicken wings were perfectly cooked, with crispy skin and juicy meat. The sauce was tangy and sweet, and the wings were coated in just the right amount of it. The crispy pork belly was also delicious. The skin was crackling and the meat was tender and flavorful. I would definitely recommend both of these dishes to anyone looking for a great meal at the Old Tom pub.

In addition to the food, the service at the Old Tom pub was also excellent. The staff were friendly and attentive, and they made sure that we had everything we needed. The atmosphere in the pub was also great. It was warm and inviting, and we felt very welcome. Overall, I had a fantastic experience at the Old Tom pub and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great place to eat and drink in Oxford
