Details

The distinctive red brick of the former Donnington Arms pub on Howard Street now signals your arrival at Everest Nepalese Restaurant and Bar, a welcoming spot where the building's 1930s 'Improved Public House' origins meet the vibrant culture of Nepal. Inside, stripped floors and ethnic art create a casual, yet intriguing atmosphere, setting the stage for an authentic culinary journey. It's a place proud to bring the genuine, subtly spiced flavours of Nepalese cuisine to Oxford, using fresh ingredients to craft dishes that aim for a cleaner, crisper, and more balanced taste. Whether you're familiar with Nepalese food or trying it for the first time, the menu offers a delightful exploration, from popular street food like Chatpate, a crunchy and spicy mix of dried noodles and puffed rice, to traditional homemade dumplings known as momo, available with vegetable, chicken, or lamb fillings and served with a stone-ground chutney.

Expect a menu that balances Nepalese specialities with familiar Indian-style dishes, ensuring there's something to entice every palate. Chef's specials often include unique creations like Rum Rum Chicken, a traditional Nepalese classic cooked with mountain black pepper, or the aromatic Himalayan Lamb. For those seeking a comprehensive taste, set meals offer excellent value, often featuring a variety of courses. Beyond the main courses, explore an extensive range of vegetable side dishes, perfect for mixing and matching, including popular choices like Aloo Daam (potatoes with red onion and chilli) or Palungo Aloo (potatoes with spinach). The restaurant is known for its friendly service and has garnered positive reviews, with many customers praising the quality and flavour of both eat-in and takeaway meals, making it a well-regarded dining destination in Oxford.

Good and freshly made food. We had meat samosa and veggie momo as starters and for main Himalayan lamb and himgiri. The price is reasonable too.

What an amazing find. It’s apparently really hard to find a sit down restaurant in this part of town, everything is take away. Well, it was definitely worth hanging around.
Food was excellent, very tasteful and authentic, the staff were friendly, and everything came out fast.
We enjoyed our dinner very much!

We went as a group of four as we were staying in an air B&B just down the street. It has a large space, lots of tables. Very pleasant woman was our server and took out order and brought us an appetizer. We had two orders of Honeymoon chicken which was delicious served with rice. One person had a Currie and the other had a grilled meat medley with Naan bread. The prices were reasonable. There was a constant weird noise I think from on mine take out orders as there were only three tables being used.

We had an amazing meal at Everest Nepalese last night, I had never had Nepalese food before and it was absolutely delicious. We left with food to take away as a second meal it was so much. The wait staff was very friendly and hospitable.
