Freshly made dishes crafted with locally sourced ingredients are a cornerstone of Jacobs and Field, a welcoming deli and cafe nestled at 15 Old High Street in Oxford's Headington area. Since 2009, this popular neighbourhood spot has been serving great all-day brunch, from their signature J&F Full English breakfast featuring beautifully cooked sausages and homemade baked beans, to Eggs Neptune with crab and hollandaise on sourdough. It's more than just a place for a meal; it's a foodie haven where the emphasis is on simple, honest, home-cooked food. The team, which operates more like a family, prides itself on a fresh take on brunch classics and proper coffee, ensuring a joyful ambience whether you're starting your day or popping in for lunch.
The interior exudes a delightful shabby-chic, French country kitchen vibe, with scrubbed antique wooden tables, vintage culinary paraphernalia, and pretty red bunting creating a homely, albeit sometimes bustling, atmosphere. Originally a smaller deli and treasure trove for foodies, Jacobs and Field has expanded, now boasting a spacious open kitchen where guests can see chefs at work preparing a broader menu that includes rustic pizzas, salads, burgers, and a tempting array of cakes and pies. This evolution into a full-fledged restaurant hasn't diminished its charm or its commitment to quality, evident in offerings like their homemade tomato and brown sauces. For those looking to enjoy the fresh air, there are also outdoor seating areas, including an enclosed terrace. You can find more information or make a reservation via their website, jacobsandfield.com.

Anton was a real credit to the place. From the get-go, he made us feel incredibly welcome friendly, attentive, and clearly passionate about both the food and the customer experience. It’s rare these days to come across someone who runs a place with such care and quiet confidence. Nothing felt rushed, everything ran like clockwork, and yet the whole vibe remained relaxed and easy going.
The breakfast itself was cracking fresh, full of flavour, and beautifully done. You can tell the kitchen takes pride in what they’re serving. But what really made it memorable was the atmosphere, and that’s down in no small part to Anton. He checked in with every table, chatted with guests in a natural, unforced way, and kept everything ticking along smoothly.
All in all, a proper gem of a spot. Great food, brilliant service, and a manager who clearly leads by example. I’ll definitely be back and if Anton’s on, you’re in for a treat.
