The Fox Inn

Food choices were great, pizza menu, burger menu, main menu and specials. Lots of veggie options on main and specifically burgers. Staff were lovely. Beautiful views and great food.

Had a mixed experience.

The pub itself, the staff and the atmosphere were great, but the food (we all had mains only) was a bit hit & miss.

I had a Sussex Burger, which was awesome - really fresh with fantastic chunky chips & coleslaw. Very happy.

Two of us ordered pizzas - these came with crispy cheese, the margherita seemingly rescued from the heat in the nick of time.

Then someone else ordered the ‘Chef’s Choice Mixed Seasonal Salad’ with optional chicken - this was the most expensive main at £24, but looked more like a starter in terms of size.

I’ve attached a photos of the burger, pizza and salad. So a win on the burger, but a rip-off uninteresting salad (photo before taken before any of it was eaten!).

All in all, a good pub - just choose your food dishes carefully!

Lovely country pub with plenty of outdoor seating and beautiful countryside views. It’s such a nice place to sit and relax, especially in good weather. The atmosphere is cosy and welcoming, and the setting on Boars Hill makes it feel like a proper countryside escape while still being close to Oxford. Staff were friendly, service was great, and it’s a perfect spot for drinks or food after a walk. Would definitely come back.

Meal went from good to not so good quite quickly.

I had booked a table for mother's day for 13:30. My wife, my daughter of 5 months, and I arrived on time. We got seated at our table which was located to the left of the bar and up some steps. There were 5 tables in this little area (including our table), and all the tables had customers when were seated. A young waitress took our order, my wife ordered the roast chicken and I had the roast beef. The roasts came out at a reasonable time and you got half a chicken, which is a generous portion. The roasts also came with cauliflower cheese. The food was really good and the portions are generous.
Then things took a massive downhill turn. We had finished our mains at 14:45 and waited 30 minutes for our dishes to be cleared and our dessert order taken. During this 30 minute period several waitresses and waiters walked back and forth to the kitchen, which is located at the bottom of the steps to where we were seated, and no one came to check in on us. One of the young waitresses came and laid the tables and did not see if we were finished, and another young waitress walked up the steps looked to her right at the now empty tables and walked straight back down the steps completely ignoring we were there. I was even stood up holding my daughter almost standing in the middle of the area! My that point we were contemplating putting a complaint in. Our plates only got cleared when an older man sat a couple down next to us and I had to tell him that we had been waiting half an hour for our plates to be cleared and our dessert order to be taken. He looked quite shocked.
When I went to pay at the bar the young woman asked how was everything, I said the food was good but the service was slow. Her response was "it is one of our busiest days of the year". Not a very professional response to a customer.

The food was really good but the service was extremely poor. The older gentleman was apologetic to us, but the young waitresses need to learn how to attend to their tables!

Lovely dog friendly pub with excellent food. Great place to break up our trip from Manchester to Portsmouth to have some great food and let the dog stretch his legs. We will be coming back every time we are in the area.

Fantastic. Been for meals 3 times in 2 weeks. Great pub, great food, great selection of drinks and the staff are brilliant. If you had a negative experience in the past I urge you to try again. Matt the new manager is one of the best restaurant managers out there, he always greets you with a smile and provides excellent, attentive service. We went as a family on my birthday for the third meal and again was greeted by Matt and shown to our table... And it was his day off. We had the haddock, picana steak, coq au van and the lamb shank and all were phenomenal, we've also had Sunday roasts which are also great.
The whole experience is great and alot is down to his management (as it was at the previous restaurant he worked at) he's an asset to the restaurant business and I can thoroughly recommend the fox inn at boars hill to accommodate for all tastes. 5*

Great to see The Fox open again. Really impressed with the menu, with lighter options (sandwiches) if you don't want a large meal. Had lunch yesterday, stunning views, lovely food, large portions & well priced

Enjoyed a lovely Sunday Lunch here after walking from South Hinksey. Great view out over the fields from the balcony. Our starters were generously portioned and well presented. The roast was one of the best I've had in a long time. Such a generous portion of beef, and the horseradish mayo was great. Service was a little slow, the roast potatoes were a little overdone, and £20 for a roast does seem a little on the pricey side, even for Oxford. But still enjoyed eating here and will definitely be coming back!

Beautiful pub, stunning view from the deck area. Generous Sunday roast with all the trimmings, very good quality. Lovely staff. Good car park.

Nice little place, fair pricing. Enjoyed the meal, was thrown off with the sides. Some of the vegetables sides are what'd you give a pet rabbit, in my opinion. But other than that , meal for 4 people cost us under a 100, not including drinks. I would revisit.
