Details

Perched atop Boars Hill just a few miles southwest of Oxford, The Fox Inn offers stunning views over the famed 'dreaming spires' and surrounding countryside, a vista particularly enjoyed from its large outdoor terrace and garden. This traditional-looking pub, with a history dating back to the 1930s, features inviting open fires and classic wooden beams, creating a warm and friendly atmosphere within its rambling, multi-level interior. Popular with walkers exploring the nearby routes and those seeking a quintessential country pub experience, The Fox Inn has undergone refurbishments to enhance its charm while retaining a welcoming feel for both diners and those simply wanting a pint. It's a place where you can comfortably arrive in wellies after a dog walk, as canine friends are welcome in the bar area.

The Fox Inn prides itself on an informal dining experience centred around fresh British food, complemented by a selection of wines, cocktails, beers, and real ales. Recent management has focused on establishing a reputation for high-quality food, with up to four real ales often available, including selections like Timothy Taylor's Boltmaker and offerings from local breweries. While the menu can feature gastropub-style dishes, with reviews praising fresh and well-prepared food, the pub also strives to maintain a true pub atmosphere where drinkers feel just as welcome as those enjoying a full meal. The pub also offers features like a darts board and Aunt Sally in the garden, catering to a traditional pub-going crowd alongside its dining patrons.

Lovely dog friendly pub with excellent food. Great place to break up our trip from Manchester to Portsmouth to have some great food and let the dog stretch his legs. We will be coming back every time we are in the area.

Fantastic. Been for meals 3 times in 2 weeks. Great pub, great food, great selection of drinks and the staff are brilliant. If you had a negative experience in the past I urge you to try again. Matt the new manager is one of the best restaurant managers out there, he always greets you with a smile and provides excellent, attentive service. We went as a family on my birthday for the third meal and again was greeted by Matt and shown to our table... And it was his day off. We had the haddock, picana steak, coq au van and the lamb shank and all were phenomenal, we've also had Sunday roasts which are also great.
The whole experience is great and alot is down to his management (as it was at the previous restaurant he worked at) he's an asset to the restaurant business and I can thoroughly recommend the fox inn at boars hill to accommodate for all tastes. 5*

Great to see The Fox open again. Really impressed with the menu, with lighter options (sandwiches) if you don't want a large meal. Had lunch yesterday, stunning views, lovely food, large portions & well priced

Enjoyed a lovely Sunday Lunch here after walking from South Hinksey. Great view out over the fields from the balcony. Our starters were generously portioned and well presented. The roast was one of the best I've had in a long time. Such a generous portion of beef, and the horseradish mayo was great. Service was a little slow, the roast potatoes were a little overdone, and £20 for a roast does seem a little on the pricey side, even for Oxford. But still enjoyed eating here and will definitely be coming back!

Nice little place, fair pricing. Enjoyed the meal, was thrown off with the sides. Some of the vegetables sides are what'd you give a pet rabbit, in my opinion. But other than that , meal for 4 people cost us under a 100, not including drinks. I would revisit.
