Details

Low oak beams stretch across the ceilings at The Jolly Farmers, one of Oxford's most cherished and long-standing gay pubs, where the inviting glow of a real fire immediately draws you in. Nestled on Paradise Street, this old-world gem has a tangible history, with parts of the building dating back considerably and its life as a pub first recorded in 1829. For over 40 years, it has served as a welcoming haven for the city's diverse LGBTQ+ community and allies, fostering a sense of belonging and camaraderie. The traditional pub setting is beautifully preserved, providing an authentic backdrop not just for an evening out, but for experiencing a piece of Oxford's unique social fabric and characterful heritage. It truly stands as a unique fixture, noted for its friendly atmosphere and inclusivity.

A fine selection of ales, including local independent brews, and expertly mixed cocktails awaits at the bar, ensuring every visitor finds a drink to their liking. Whether it's a classic pint after a day exploring Oxford or a sophisticated concoction to begin an evening, the friendly bar staff are ready to oblige. Beyond the welcoming interior, many patrons enjoy the secluded and surprisingly spacious beer garden, a pleasant, sometimes tropically themed, surprise in the city centre, perfect for sunny afternoons or enjoying one of the pub's often lively events. Located conveniently at 20 Paradise Street, The Jolly Farmers is easily accessible and though it doesn't serve its own food, guests are welcome to order takeaways to enjoy on the premises. Its enduring popularity and recent inclusion in the Good Beer Guide are testaments to its warm hospitality and vital role as a cornerstone of the community.

I walked into what I Will describe as one of the most, friendly, relaxing, beautiful pubs Iv ever visited. The in side is so unique with its sofas, quieter areas, board games, books and lovely decorated walls and comfortable furniture.

The garden is a lovely size and just like the inside it is relaxing and a really nice area.

We didn't eat so I cannot comment on the food but the service was perfect and the atmosphere was great. I'm not local to the area (about a hour away) but I would purposely go back just to visit this pub again

Picked out this Cask Marque pub near the shopping centre. Two real ales, and a new brewery for me.... Disruption brewery, More Chaos Pale Ale, an unrefined beer but very good. Lots of rooms and a good sized rear garden. Visited on a quiet Thursday afternoon. Lovely pub.

I love the Jolly Farmers! It's so fun and friendly, my favorite first date spot. Staff and owners are lovely. It is nice that they let you bring in your own food, the fire is warm and welcoming and there are lovely leather sofas!

A new visitor to Oxford from 'just up the road' Birmingham, I called in here on two nights running this week. A warm welcome from the bar staff along with comfy seating, a cosy feel and a nice relaxed vibe all made for a very pleasant hour or so. I didn't eat here, but the ales on offer were good. I liked it here a lot!

This pub was sooo lovely!!! The staff were so nice and the building is gorgeous! Went for an event in the garden and the price of the drinks was quite expensive so that is why one star down but overall just had one of the best nights in Oxford :)! Would be back again :)!!
