Details

Housed within Oxford's historic Mitre building on the High Street, a structure with parts dating back to the 13th century and Grade II* listed status, Gusto Italian offers a striking contrast of old and new. The beautifully refurbished interior retains historic character, with cosy nooks, original fireplaces, and wood panelling, now enhanced by warm lighting, elegant décor, and modern touches like a cool cocktail bar and an open-display kitchen. This creates a warm, cosy, and intimate ambience, perfect for visitors seeking a special meal. Since opening in December 2022, Gusto has aimed to bring this iconic Oxford location back to life, offering a sleek and inviting space for everything from morning coffee to evening dinners.

The menu presents a wide appeal with Italian-inspired dishes, featuring char-grilled specialities, stone-baked pizzas with airy sourdough crusts, and fresh seafood. Diners can enjoy traditional favourites such as pasta and risotto, available as starters or mains, alongside contemporary creations like pulled pork gnocchi or a honey-glazed duck with balsamic. Popular choices include the Gusto dough petals, pan-seared king scallops, and highly recommended desserts like their tiramisu. The restaurant caters to various preferences with vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options, and even offers unique experiences like a chef's table and pizza-making classes. With friendly service and a vibrant atmosphere, it's a versatile spot for a romantic evening, a gathering with friends, or a memorable taste of Italy in the heart of Oxford.

It was my last lunch in Oxford and decided to try this place. I ordered a caprino pizza. It looked big and I thought I'd have half of it. It I couldn't stop, and nearly finished it. The pistachio crème brulée was just ok. Good selection of wine by the glass, super friendly service. Would happily come again.

Amazing meal and great service by Tash highly recommend if you’re looking for a good authentic Italian. They offer cooking classes and bottomless brunch in addition to regular menus.

Came here on a whim a few weeks ago. Was seated immediately, on a Sunday night and with no reservation. I got the dough petals with garlic butter— so good!— and chicken, which was well cooked and had a great sauce. A meal I would definitely return to get again. The food came quickly, and service was great.

I visited with 3 others to celebrate a 60th birthday. we booked the bottomless brunch & was not disappointed. We were seated very quickly by our server Andrea, she took our order & quickly returned with the 1st drinks. She kept an eye on our table & returned before our glasses were empty to take the next order. Perfect at a bottomless brunch. The range of cocktails was perfect & we were very pleased to see freshly made cocktails & no premix in sight. It was great to see a good variety of food choices not an eggs benedict to be seen thankfully. Good potions to soak up the cocktails (Italian coffee is a must). Birthday girl was treated to a complimentary sweet treat, candle included.
We will definitely return for future birthday celebrations & hopefully in between as well.

The food and service — stellar. Mihai was attentive, knowledgeable, kind, joyous, and made delicious recommendations. The atmosphere would have been stellar, too, if the music wasn’t up so loud and if the host hadn’t been such a stick in the mud.
