Details

At 20-22 West Way Square, Tempering Indian Restaurant & Bar offers a culinary journey where every dish starts with the sizzle of spices in hot oil, a process known as "tempering" in Indian cooking. This recently opened establishment, managed by Ravinder Kandari, formerly of the popular 4500 Miles From Delhi, brings a love for honest food, rooted in tradition and served with warmth. Signature dishes like Chicken Madras, Lamb Rogan Josh, and Goan Fish Curry showcase their commitment to authentic flavours, with starters such as Onion Bhaji and Lamb Chops also on the menu. The restaurant has quickly received a warm welcome, praised for its delicious and reasonably priced food, alongside heart-warming hospitality.

The beautifully decorated interior and great ambiance provide a welcoming setting for both families and friends, with options for cosy booth seating. Situated in the bustling West Way Square, Tempering contributes to the area's role as an attractive focal point with its array of restaurants and cafes. Diners have highlighted the extremely flavourful meals and the friendly, helpful service, making it a recommended spot in Botley. While the restaurant has focused on its dine-in experience, the team is also looking to expand its takeaway offerings. The menu also features a good selection of vegetarian options, including Palak Paneer and Tadka Dal, alongside various rice and naan breads.

We had an amazing meal at Tempering. The staff were polite, prompt, and incredibly accommodating to both us and our 18-month-old. They offered a high chair without us needing to ask, and even gave him some colouring materials along with a small packet of crayons to take home—a lovely, thoughtful touch.

All the food was absolutely delicious. The poppadoms were fresh, and the mango chutney was packed with flavour. The onion bhajis were full of taste and came with a great dipping sauce. We were also given an extra starter on the house, which was just as tasty.

I had the chicken korma with pilau rice, and it was far beyond the standard you’d expect from an average curry house. The dish had a perfect balance of flavour and a rich, creamy consistency—true restaurant quality.

The interior of the restaurant is another standout. It’s spotlessly clean, beautifully presented, and has a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

We’ll definitely be returning—and next time, we’re bringing the whole extended family.

We had a delicious meal here with the family. The food was high quality and service polite and efficient. We had a range of currys and vegetarian sharing platter. My son had the biryani, this was a little more heavily spiced than is to our taste, but the mango sorbet made up for it. Great value as well.

Delicious food. Staff were very attentive. Thanks for the great meal.

Since everything was otherwise excellent, one very minor nitpick, the poppadoms only came with a (very small) onion chutney and mango chutney, it would have been nice to have more sauces like mint sauce or a raita.

New Indian restaurant with non-exhaustive menu but authentic and tasty. We tried chat, chicken curry and nans, some salad too. Good ambience staff keen on promoting and providing good experience.

What a find, we were staying at the Premier Inn and couldn’t have hoped for a better restaurant next door. Lovely decor, welcoming staff and all food was superb - the samosa chat starter I could eat every day. Highly recommend.
