At 20-22 West Way Square, Tempering Indian Restaurant & Bar offers a culinary journey where every dish starts with the sizzle of spices in hot oil, a process known as "tempering" in Indian cooking. This recently opened establishment, managed by Ravinder Kandari, formerly of the popular 4500 Miles From Delhi, brings a love for honest food, rooted in tradition and served with warmth. Signature dishes like Chicken Madras, Lamb Rogan Josh, and Goan Fish Curry showcase their commitment to authentic flavours, with starters such as Onion Bhaji and Lamb Chops also on the menu. The restaurant has quickly received a warm welcome, praised for its delicious and reasonably priced food, alongside heart-warming hospitality.
The beautifully decorated interior and great ambiance provide a welcoming setting for both families and friends, with options for cosy booth seating. Situated in the bustling West Way Square, Tempering contributes to the area's role as an attractive focal point with its array of restaurants and cafes. Diners have highlighted the extremely flavourful meals and the friendly, helpful service, making it a recommended spot in Botley. While the restaurant has focused on its dine-in experience, the team is also looking to expand its takeaway offerings. The menu also features a good selection of vegetarian options, including Palak Paneer and Tadka Dal, alongside various rice and naan breads.

All the food was absolutely delicious. The poppadoms were fresh, and the mango chutney was packed with flavour. The onion bhajis were full of taste and came with a great dipping sauce. We were also given an extra starter on the house, which was just as tasty.
I had the chicken korma with pilau rice, and it was far beyond the standard you’d expect from an average curry house. The dish had a perfect balance of flavour and a rich, creamy consistency—true restaurant quality.
The interior of the restaurant is another standout. It’s spotlessly clean, beautifully presented, and has a warm, welcoming atmosphere.
We’ll definitely be returning—and next time, we’re bringing the whole extended family.
