Housed within the historic The Chequers Inn on The Green in Horspath, The Gurkha Palace offers a genuine taste of the Himalayas right in the heart of Oxfordshire. This popular village spot combines the welcoming atmosphere of a traditional pub with the distinct flavours of Nepalese and Indian cuisine. You can anticipate a menu filled with age-old recipes, from spiced Sheek Kebabs and classic curries to authentic Nepalese specialities like Momos (steamed dumplings) and Gorkhali Chicken. Whether you're seeking a hearty meal after exploring the nearby Shotover Country Park or a unique dining experience a short journey from Oxford city centre, The Gurkha Palace provides a warm setting and dishes prepared with quality ingredients.
The Chequers Inn itself, a building with roots stretching back, provides a characterful backdrop for your meal. While the current structure is predominantly 19th century, it rests on earlier foundations, and the pub has long been a focal point of Horspath village life. The Gurkha Palace continues this tradition of hospitality, focusing on great service and, most importantly, flavourful food. Diners can enjoy a range of Tandoori dishes, classic curries like Madras and Korma, alongside unique Gurkha Palace Specials, ensuring there’s something to tempt every palate. It’s a place where the rich culinary heritage of Nepal meets the charm of an English village inn, creating a truly memorable visit.

From the delicate onion bhajis to the rich, fiery, lamb dish we tried, I can honestly say everything we had was beautifully spiced and flavoured.
The manager was also really friendly and warm, and we are now concocting our next excuse to come back…
Top, top place.
