A 17th-century country inn with its charming thatched roof, The Perch has been a fixture in Binsey for an incredible 800 years, even older than some parts of the university. Just a few minutes' walk from the Isis, Oxford's stretch of the Thames, and the historic Port Meadow, its location is idyllic. This pub is steeped in literary history, having been a favoured spot for Lewis Carroll, who is said to have given early readings of Alice in Wonderland here, and it was also frequented by C.S. Lewis and Inspector Morse. The surrounding Binsey Poplars were even immortalised in a poem by Gerard Manley Hopkins.
