Details

Nineteen elegant, individually decorated rooms await you above a historic riverside pub at Folly Bridge, many offering the best waterside views in Oxford. This traditional inn, set in a converted 19th-century warehouse, provides a characterful and comfortable base, complete with free WiFi and a complimentary breakfast to start your day. Named after the winning boat in the university rowing regatta which finishes just downstream, the Head Of The River is steeped in Oxford's rich rowing tradition. It's perfectly positioned for exploring, just a few minutes' walk from Oxford city centre, Christ Church, the Botanic Gardens, and the university colleges.

The pub's lively riverside terrace and beer garden are a major draw, considered one of the best spots in central Oxford for enjoying a drink outdoors on a sunny day while watching the punts and rowing crews glide by. Inside, the popular bar and restaurant retain a cosy, heritage charm with exposed beams and rowing memorabilia, serving fresh food, including pub classics and seasonal specials, alongside a wide selection of beers, ciders, wines, and spirits. From this prime location, you can easily access the Thames Path for scenic walks to Iffley village or Port Meadow, or take a short stroll to discover Oxford's famous museums, theatres, and shops.

I absolutely enjoyed my stay at Head of the River! What an incredible location, amazing food and great service. It was my first time in Oxford and I am so glad I chose Head of the River as the place for my stay. From the moment we entered till we left, Its how kind the staff were that really stood out to me. Also the views were spectacular with swans, ducks and goose visiting us often. Its a quick walk to all the main areas of Oxford. There is also a delicious complimentary breakfast which has a variety of options to choose from. Special mention to Naomi, Caitlin and Anna for helping us quite a bit during our stay. If anyone asks me where to stay for their Oxford trip, undoutedly I will refer them to book a room at Head of the River! Very neat and spacious rooms as well with a very historic vibe to the place.
Overall superb place.

Been here a few times over the years, booked a dinning patio table online, was quick and easy process. As there are different levels for outside dining and drinks. Love sitting out overlooking the river when the sun is out.
Food was presented well and very tasty, a little on the expensive side, but I guess that's down to location.
Service was good and our waitress was very friendly.

This was great location to visit only for a drink, situated by the River Thames with beautiful views! The counter is modern and lighting is pretty, flags adorn the interior too. I had one of the ciders on tap and appreciated the bench outside, although they are card only which is not something I think businesses should do.

We had a perfect stay, can’t fault this beautiful pub/hotel. Lovely location next to the river, super friendly and welcoming staff. The room was beautiful and well appointed with a comfy bed and lovely teas, coffees and biscuits. The breakfast offering was perfect and we thoroughly enjoyed the hot options.

We booked last minute and really pleased to have picked The Head of the River - we’ll definitely return, a faultless visit.

We came here to eat a couple of times- the food is excellent. Especially the fish & chips- are a 10/10 (and I’ve had many many fish & chips).

The staff are also incredible- GARY (Chef) was a big reason for us coming back again and again- his passion, kindness and care for his craft was inspiring.

Recommend highly, overall.
