Details

A taste of ancient Rome awaits discovery at BBuona Pinsa Bar, nestled at 102 Gloucester Green. This compact, vintage-style café specialises in pinsa, a traditional Italian delight that predates pizza. Its unique oval shape comes from being hand-pressed, and the dough, a blend of wheat, soy, and rice flours, undergoes a long fermentation process – sometimes up to 72 hours. This results in a characteristically light, airy, and easily digestible crust, crispy on the outside and soft inside. BBuona offers a variety of toppings for their pinsas, from classic Margheritas to gourmet options featuring ingredients like burrata and Italian cured meats, ensuring an authentic Roman experience in the heart of Oxford.

Beyond their signature pinsas, BBuona provides a complete Italian café experience throughout the day. Start your morning with an excellent Italian-roasted coffee and traditional pastries, or enjoy a leisurely lunch that might also include salads or oven-baked dishes like lasagna. As evening approaches, it’s the perfect spot for an aperitivo with Campari-based cocktails, Italian beers, and wines. And no Italian culinary journey is complete without dessert; BBuona tempts with classic gelato and freshly piped cannoli, a treat highly recommended by regulars. The friendly staff and convivial atmosphere make every visit a warm and welcoming escape.

So cool to try something different in the ‘Pinsa’. Amazing toppings on a super soft dough and it really has proved to be easier to digest 😆
Staff were lovely, told us about the dough and shared their passion with us.
Couldn’t recommend more!

Delicious gluten free pizza!
This has to be one of the best gluten free pizzas I've had in the UK. The dough/ pizza base is so soft and flavourful. The texture was amazing!
I loved my vegetarian pizza, generously topped with olives, onions, peppers, and tomato.
10/10 recommend if you are gluten free! Just be aware that they charge an additional fee for a gluten free base.

Perhaps some of the best pizzas I’ve had! The porcini mushrooms pizza is the absolute best and mushrooms pizzas will never be the same.
The garlic oil and chilli oil are the best addition to the pizza and just help to mix things up a little bit.
It’s a must visit whenever I’m down in Oxford!

I was introduced to the concept of Pinsa at Bbuona, and I didn’t even know it existed! The food was absolutely delicious, with incredibly fresh and flavorful ingredients. The burrata was creamy and rich, and the salame pinsa was outstanding—spicy and packed with flavor. The cannolo was truly exceptional, one of the best I’ve ever had.
There’s a limited but good selection of Italian wines, which complemented the meal nicely. While the service took a bit longer than expected and the restroom wasn’t very clean, the staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming.
I highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Oxford. Locals are lucky to have such a gem at their doorstep!

Only giving 4 stars because my mom didn't love her pizza but I think it was mostly because she didn't pick a flavor she liked. I got the plain Margherita and loved it. Pizza bread was good. We enjoyed the bruschetta (different from the usual tomato topping) and the strawberry gelato/lemon sorbet were so yummy. Lovely and quick service. We got there maybe around 5:30pm. The place filled up pretty quickly afterwards closer to 6/6:30pm.
