Details

Nestled on St Michael's Street, Oxford Presbyterian Church occupies the historic North Gate Hall, a Grade II listed building originally constructed in 1870-71 as a United Methodist Free Church chapel. This city-centre church, a congregation of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church of England and Wales, found its home here in January 2023, breathing new life into a structure that has served various purposes over the decades, including as a home for the Oxford Intercollegiate Christian Union for nearly 60 years and, more recently, as a restaurant. The original 19th-century building, designed by J.C. Curtis, even incorporates a bastion from Oxford's old city walls, discovered during its initial construction. The church community itself was planted in 2018 and is dedicated to understanding and sharing their faith, welcoming all to join their services and activities.

Oxford Presbyterian Church is a vibrant community hub with a regular schedule of services and activities. Sunday services are held at 10:30 am and 5:00 pm in the North Gate Hall, and are also live-streamed on YouTube for those unable to attend in person. Beyond Sunday worship, the church offers various ministries and events catering to different groups including students, families, and youth. They emphasize fellowship and community, aiming to be a welcoming place for individuals from all walks of life. The church is actively engaged in the city, seeking to serve the local population and provide a space for spiritual growth and connection in the heart of Oxford. Visitors interested in its history or seeking a place of worship will find a committed and growing congregation.
