Real meteorites can be held at 118, Covered Market, where the Space Store offers an experience dedicated to bringing the universe a little closer to Oxford. Opposite Nothing Jewellery, this unique destination is more than just a shop; it's an experiential hub for anyone curious about the cosmos. You can browse genuine space-themed merchandise, including apparel, games, models, and books, or even try on a replica Tim Peake spacesuit. The store aims to make the space industry more accessible, with knowledgeable staff ready to share insights. It’s a place where you can find stunning star maps, model rockets, and even take part in virtual reality experiences like exploring the caves of Mars or witnessing Earth from space.

The founder, a rocket scientist, envisioned the Space Store as a way to connect the public with the world-leading scientific research happening in Oxfordshire. Inside, virtual reality headsets suitable for ages four and up allow for immersive spacewalks and rocket launches. For a more in-depth adventure, the Astronaut Experience offers a 90-120 minute session including VR, handling meteorites, and learning about life on the International Space Station. They also host an 'I See Earth' VR experience designed to evoke the profound "Overview Effect" felt by astronauts. Located conveniently on the ground floor, the store welcomes everyone, from space-mad kids to curious adults, and even offers escape-room inspired adventures.

Absolutely amazing experience! Set in the Covered Market in Oxford, this little place is a must do for any space lovers. A personalised tour of space, meteorites and how they’ve formed and found on Earth. How do we know this is from space? All these things and more are answered on this experience.

We loved having pics in space outfits. The Virtual reality experience really was brilliant. Steve was so knowledgable and really made the experience for us all. Kids loved every minute (aged 11). Highly recommend.

Thank you!

My grandson and I enjoyed every second. Terrific VR experiences, especially floating around on the International Space Station. We loved handling the meteorites. Leah (sorry if I've misspelt that) was friendly, helpful, informative and clearly passionate about the subject. Thank you very much!

On arrival I was a little bit disappointed to see the experience was held at the back of the shop around a table with people in the shop watching us. Would be great if they properly partitioned this bit off and created a space themed room. We were given some cards to look at through an iPad which were augmented which my son enjoyed. They sell packs of them in the shop for around £15. Lizzy was a brilliant host and engaged really well my son who is a 9 year old space enthusiast. We were shown a sample of meteorites again which he loved and then we had a VR experience. The first one was very good, the second diving one was terrible - really grainy and quite dull. Lizzy then talked to us about what they eat in space and my son tried on the space suit something I opted out of. He got a lovely framed picture after and a piece of meteorite (as I opted out of having a picture). I spent over £100 on this experience for 2 through Virgin. My rating is reflective that I feel it was pretty poor value for money, not a reflection on the staff. My son thoroughly enjoyed it which was priceless. We travelled 3hrs to get there, sadly wish I’d spent the day at the Leicester space centre with him - closer, cheaper and a lot more to do. Again ratings not reflective of the staff, but if you really want to make space accessible for all this should not cost as much as it did.

Had a wonderful time here. Friendly staff, informative and great fun. I bought the astronaut experience as a birthday present for a family member and we really rated it. Highly recommended

We had such a great experience at the store today. My daughter had a change of heart about doing the VR experience we'd paid for. The man (sadly didn't take his name) was so incredibly kind to my daughter and offered her a brilliant alternative which she loved, and spent lots of time sharing space facts and showing her a meteorite. The shop itself has loads of amazing space themed books, gifts and toys and is a must visit for any space enthusiast. We'll definitely be back. We loved it.
