Real meteorites can be held at 118, Covered Market, where the Space Store offers an experience dedicated to bringing the universe a little closer to Oxford. Opposite Nothing Jewellery, this unique destination is more than just a shop; it's an experiential hub for anyone curious about the cosmos. You can browse genuine space-themed merchandise, including apparel, games, models, and books, or even try on a replica Tim Peake spacesuit. The store aims to make the space industry more accessible, with knowledgeable staff ready to share insights. It’s a place where you can find stunning star maps, model rockets, and even take part in virtual reality experiences like exploring the caves of Mars or witnessing Earth from space.

The founder, a rocket scientist, envisioned the Space Store as a way to connect the public with the world-leading scientific research happening in Oxfordshire. Inside, virtual reality headsets suitable for ages four and up allow for immersive spacewalks and rocket launches. For a more in-depth adventure, the Astronaut Experience offers a 90-120 minute session including VR, handling meteorites, and learning about life on the International Space Station. They also host an 'I See Earth' VR experience designed to evoke the profound "Overview Effect" felt by astronauts. Located conveniently on the ground floor, the store welcomes everyone, from space-mad kids to curious adults, and even offers escape-room inspired adventures.

We had such a great experience at the store today. My daughter had a change of heart about doing the VR experience we'd paid for. The man (sadly didn't take his name) was so incredibly kind to my daughter and offered her a brilliant alternative which she loved, and spent lots of time sharing space facts and showing her a meteorite. The shop itself has loads of amazing space themed books, gifts and toys and is a must visit for any space enthusiast. We'll definitely be back. We loved it.
