Thoroughly relaxing and enjoyable! The “chauffeur” or “punter” was knowledgeable about the colleges and history which made it very interesting indeed.

Beautiful experience!! Worth the price, a once in a lifetime thing to do. They are cash only so come prepared. We did the self punt and it took just a little while to get the hang of it, but if you think you’re coordinated and athletic - you should be fine. Perfect on a summer evening.

My friend and I went punting on the river Cherwell and decided to do it ourselves instead of hiring a chauffeur. It was our first time, and the experience was both fun and a bit frightening. Without proper technique, we had to put in a lot of effort, which left us pretty exhausted by the end. Despite the challenge, we managed to complete the journey within the time limit and didn’t have to pay any extra charges £8, a tiring but memorable adventure!

Peaceful Oxford moments by the river

This part of Oxford feels completely different from the academic side — it’s quieter, greener, and more relaxed.
I walked along the riverside near Magdalen Bridge and saw people punting slowly along the water. The sound of the water, birds, and trees made it feel far away from city life, even though I was only a few minutes from the colleges.

I didn’t go punting myself this time, but just watching the boats glide past was peaceful. The houses, gardens, and old bridges along the water give this area a storybook feel.
It’s also a great place to take photos or just sit and rest for a while.

If you have a few hours in Oxford, I highly recommend walking around this area — especially in the afternoon or early evening.
It’s one of those places where you don’t have to do much — just being there is enough.
