Details

Trinity College on Broad Street serves as the starting point for your exploration of Oxford's historic streets, a city renowned for its university and the golden-stoned architecture of its ancient colleges. Many tours, often lasting around 90 minutes to two hours, delve into the heart of the University, showcasing iconic sights such as the Bodleian Library, the Radcliffe Camera, and the Sheldonian Theatre. Knowledgeable guides, some of whom are Oxford graduates themselves, share anecdotes about famous alumni like J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis, and reveal filming locations for popular series and movies, including Harry Potter and Inspector Morse. These excursions are designed to be accessible, often keeping to relatively flat terrain and limiting group sizes for a more personal experience.

Beyond the famous spires and quadrangles, your walking tour may also uncover hidden alleyways and reveal stories of student life past and present. Depending on the specific tour chosen, you might gain entry to one of the historic colleges, perhaps visiting a dining hall or chapel, subject to their daily availability. You'll learn about the city's evolution from Saxon times and the origins of its medieval university. Some tours also highlight literary connections, from Alice in Wonderland to Philip Pullman's narratives, or even delve into the city's spookier tales on an evening ghost tour. Fantastic tour led by Jonathan on 29/11. As a past student, he clearly has an enormous passion for the university and city and this shone through in the commentary he gave.
The pace was energetic and enabled us to see and learn about so much and fit a great number of locations in.
