Details

Giant tea caddies and the rich scent of roasting coffee would have greeted the first customers of Walter Whittard's London shop back in 1886. This passion for quality and a willingness to seek out the very best teas, coffees, and increasingly, inventive hot chocolates, defines the Whittard of Chelsea experience to this day. At their Oxford branch on Queen Street, you'll find this enduring spirit alive and well. It's a place to pause your explorations of the city and engage your senses, perhaps even sampling some of their latest unique tea blends, often available to try before you buy. From the robust and invigorating to the refreshingly herbal and light, the range reflects a global search for distinctive flavours.

Stepping into the Oxford store, you're invited to explore a wide array of carefully selected products, a tradition that began when Walter Whittard himself insisted on blending his own teas and roasting coffee on site. Discover an extensive collection of over 75 unique tea blends, encompassing black, oolong, green, and white teas, alongside vibrant fruit and herbal infusions. Beyond the world of tea, you'll find an impressive selection of speciality coffees and a creative array of flavoured hot chocolates. Whether you're seeking a classic English Breakfast with a delicate, honeyed twist, a unique gift like their popular Tea Advent Calendar, or simply a moment to discover a new favourite flavour, the Queen Street shop offers a treasure trove for the curious palate.

We visited the shop on April 10th, 2025. The sale lady in black hair who was in charge in the afternoon should have serviced mind improved. We asked for the recommendation of hot chocolate which is not too strong for kids meaning less caffeine and we’d expect better response rather than staring eyes with eyebrow raised. We felt stupid for asking this and sorry that we didn’t know much about tea and chocolate. We bought some items though for souvenir and thought to share the comments for the management to improve the service mind of sale person. Thank you.

The new store is so bright and open, love how you can smell all the teas in the canisters. Popped in to stock up on my matcha and tasted some new hot chocolate. The staff were super friendly as always and I ended up buying a new tea called Blueberry Rooibos that they helped me find.

Came on Thursday before Valentines to get a gift, two girls in store - one blonde and one black haired on a laptop. I know NOTHING about coffee and cake to find a gift, asked the girl on laptop for help smelling the coffees and she was so rude 😭 Not only complaining loud enough for the whole shop to hear about having to send some email but kept hurrying me up when I said ‘I need some help with the coffee’ she goes ‘what coffee’ then I said ‘I just wanted to smell some’ she snapped ‘WHICH ONES’ like girl I don’t KNOW yet? I get life gets busy but your emails shouldn’t be your customers problem! Much less is the shop floor the right space for it. Thankfully she passed me off to the blonde girl as soon as she came back and she was lovely , super friendly and made the process of picking a gift much easier and don’t mind that I couldn’t explain much coffee tastes or knowledge (as I have none)

Absolutely loved this shop in Oxford! The atmosphere was cozy and charming, and Amanda was incredible — super friendly, attentive, and really knew her teas. She gave me great recommendations. Will definitely be back!
