This was my first trip to England, I visited Oxford. Right at the start of the main street, Laird Hatters caught my eye with their funky yet fascinating building.

I have always wanted a bowler hat, and nearly got one. But right as I walked in, I was welcomed by two lovely sales associates, Charlotte and Sara, and they sized me up immediately and handed me the perfect size peaked cap, the “Shelby”.

I have to admit that I have never found a perfectly fitting, accurately coloured, tailored hat before.

Charlotte and Sara were both very welcome, fun and helpful with trying out different styles and making me feel welcome.

And once I saw that the hat read “Made in England”, they had themselves a sale.

If you’re looking for an English hat, this is the place to be.

I was put off at my local Cambridge store, when attempting to buy my hat. Since I was in Oxford at the time, thought I would check out the Laird Oxford store.

The staff was helpful and informative, and knew what hat I was looking for, with the limited information I was able to provide lol. They had good knowledge of what materials made up the hats, and how to fit the hat to one’s head with cork. I like, how they were not pushy, or up selling other products to get sells, which made the experience feel more real, like your chilling with a friend. Bought the Alfred Trilby hat suede in taupe.
Recommended store would revisit for my hat needs. Bit of friendly Oxford Vs Cambridge rivalry ;p

Always wanted to step in as it’s in such a lovely spot on Cornmarket but the proprietress was quite rude! L

I wanted to simply have a look at sizes and styles of hats by the door - when suddenly she barked at us from her perch by the till “do you need any help” in quite a sharp tone. Honestly!

Such a shame since it looked like they had some nice things but I’m afraid they lost my custom today.

If you’re a tourist and have no plans of shopping in London or visiting other shops go ahead, but so think you’ll have a much better shopping experience elsewhere.

Condescending staff. I could afford your £100/hat price. But staff was like ‘All our hats are £90-100, not looking at my face, dismissive attitude. No wonder there is noone in there. Not stepping in there ever again.
