Frequented by a savvy mix of students and professionals, The Duke of Cambridge on Little Clarendon Street has been a cornerstone of Oxford's cocktail scene since 1981. This isn't your average pub; it's a dedicated bar known for its stylish, if somewhat retro, decor featuring a long wooden bar and comfortable circular booths, creating an atmosphere that's always buzzing, especially on weekends. They pride themselves on using fine spirits and fresh ingredients for both classic and contemporary cocktails. If you're looking for a deal, their legendary happy hours are exceptionally generous, running from 4pm to 9pm Sunday to Thursday, and 4pm to 7:30pm on Fridays and Saturdays, with cocktails starting from £4.95. It's a popular spot for a fun night out, whether it's for after-work drinks, a date, or a gathering with friends.
Nestled in the bohemian Jericho district, Little Clarendon Street itself is a destination, recently highlighted as one of the UK's coolest urban corners. This charming, pastel-hued cobbled street offers a delightful array of independent shops, boutiques, and eateries. You can find everything from artisanal cheese at The Jericho Cheese Company to unique clothing and homeware. The Duke of Cambridge fits perfectly into this trendy and accessible neighbourhood, providing a sophisticated spot to enjoy well-made drinks after exploring the local area. The bar can get busy, a testament to its enduring popularity and its knack for creating a vibrant, party-like atmosphere when the evening gets going.

There were 3 different menus throughout the bar, one from a QR code on the table, one on the website and another paper one at the bar. All had a different time for happy hour?? We booked a table for 6:30 specifically to be here over happy hour but when we went to order drinks we were told it had finished and had to pay full price (£12 for a cocktail) even tho on one menu it said it finished at 7 and another at 7:30?? This was on a Saturday and they had run out of lemonade, grenadine and passion fruit so didn’t have all the ingredients for a lot of cocktails on the menu. I assume this was the manager (as he was asked about our table when we said we had a booking) but he was on his phone in the corner most of the time we were there aswell which isn’t great when there is a queue at the bar with one bartender.
Cocktails are nice but very expensive, just so many other locations in oxford that aren’t as expensive and actually stick to the happy hour prices they have on the menu…
