Located at 75 Cowley Road, Chabad of Oxford serves as a welcoming hub for both local residents and visitors, including the many Jewish students studying at the city's prestigious university. Founded in September 2001 by Rabbi Eli Brackman and Rebbetzen Freidy Brackman, the centre aims to provide a warm, hospitable environment for Jewish learning, education, and cultural activities. Throughout the year, it hosts regular Shabbat meals, with Friday night dinners and Saturday lunches offering a chance for community and connection. Beyond these regular gatherings, Chabad of Oxford also provides kosher food services, including catering and a cafe, and houses the Oxford Slager Family Mikvah. The organisation actively engages with students at both Oxford University and Oxford Brookes University, strengthening their ties to their Jewish heritage through a variety of stimulating programmes.
The Oxford Chabad Society, an active student-led group associated with Chabad House, frequently organises events featuring high-profile national and international guest speakers. These lectures and dinners, often held at prestigious university venues like Magdalen College or the Nissan Lecture Theatre, aim to challenge students intellectually and encourage deeper exploration of their Jewish identity. In addition to its student-focused activities, Chabad of Oxford has expanded its physical presence over the years, opening the David Slager Chabad Jewish Student Centre on George Street in 2006 and later extending the Chabad House with The George & Pamela Rohr House to include more space for dinners and social gatherings. They also run Gan Oxford, a kindergarten and childcare service.
