Details

Located at 1 Canterbury Road, the Greek Orthodox Community of the Holy Trinity shares its church, The Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity and the Annunciation, with the Orthodox Parish of the Annunciation. This unique arrangement means visitors can experience a rich tapestry of traditions, as the parishes alternate leading services, one following the Greek Liturgical Tradition and the other the Russian Liturgical Tradition. Services are a blend of languages, predominantly Greek or English depending on the Sunday, but often incorporating Slavonic and Romanian, creating a distinctive multicultural liturgical experience. The church has a history of fostering Orthodox worship in Oxford, with both communities sharing the purpose-built church since 1973, after outgrowing a previous chapel. Newcomers, whether just visiting or considering regular attendance, are warmly welcomed and invited to stay for tea and coffee after Sunday liturgy to meet parishioners.

The community is an active one, marking its fiftieth anniversary of the completed church in 2023 with a special appeal. Beyond regular services, the calendar sometimes features special events such as fundraising concerts, which might include receptions with home-made Greek snacks, and celebratory bring-and-share meals following significant services like a visit from the Archbishop. The parish is notably friendly and makes an effort to welcome new faces, especially at the beginning of the academic year when there's a steady influx of new people. While there's no dedicated parking at the church itself, spaces can usually be found within a short walk, though visitors are advised to be mindful of residents-only parking and active traffic wardens, even on Sundays. The community is part of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Thyateira and Great Britain, under the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople.

Rather disappointed. Today was the second time I tried to go to this church, and again the door was locked, despite the Google search results claiming that the church is open 24 hours.
Either change the online details or allow people to indeed come in and worship 24 hrs as you are currently claiming.

It is very difficult to find, if only some kind of sign was hung up or arrows were drawn on the pavement. And the hours of work are worse than in a public institution. I came on Easter Sunday: at 1:00 in the afternoon there was not a single living soul around. I just live far away, I don’t have my own transport, it was difficult to get there - and I ended up just looking at the door. In this regard, it is rather an English church than an Orthodox one: on major holidays, our churches are open until the evening, and here in the morning they ran to the service and back to do household chores. So you need to go here by 6 o'clock in the morning.

This orthodox christian temple is an octagon building, the priests can explain why it's not as usual orthodox temples.. it might get busy and full of people, it is still very welcoming and there is usually a feast nearby, to discuss everything. I trust everyone can visit during the liturgy, there is a program online and in copies. I met people with different backgrounds and of all ages.
