Nestled on Godstow Road since the 17th century, The White Hart in Wolvercote stands as a Grade II listed building and a cherished community-run free house. It offers a joyful, dog-friendly, and family-friendly atmosphere where you can enjoy a selection of delicious food and drinks. Inside, a pool table and darts board provide entertainment, while sunny days can be savoured in the pub garden, perhaps with a game of ping pong or the traditional Oxfordshire game of Aunt Sally. Conveniently located near the Thames Path and the expansive Port Meadow, it’s a welcoming stop for walkers and visitors exploring the picturesque village. The pub also hosts a local farmers market every Sunday morning and features regular live music events, including jazz sessions.
The White Hart prides itself on an ever-changing selection of locally sourced guest ales, earning it a place in CAMRA's "Good Beer Guide". Their food menu is equally appealing, boasting homemade, expertly crafted pizzas as a speciality, alongside brunch classics, toasties, paninis, and a range of smash and gourmet burgers. Historically, the building itself has a fascinating past, possibly constructed from stone sourced from the nearby ruins of Godstow Abbey. After a period of uncertainty, The White Hart Community Pub Limited was established in 2013 by Wolvercote residents to ensure its future as a vibrant community hub. Just a short distance away, visitors can explore the ancient Port Meadow, a large area of common land perfect for walking and wildlife spotting, or discover the historic Godstow Abbey, famed as the burial place of 'Fair Rosamund' de Clifford.

But, having visited twice in a week, the first time the kitchen did not apparently receive the order from the till and so we were waiting over 30 minutes for food. Thibking it was a one off, the second time, no drinks or food had arrived after 30 minutes so I had to chase up. Looks like the order had been forgotten (?) but it arrived 5 minutes later. So a bit disappointing for just 2 coffees and a sandwich.
