Consecrated in 1907, St Andrew's Church on Linton Road offers a distinctive neo-Norman architectural style to the North Oxford landscape. Designed by A.R.G. Fenning, the building features a large clerestoried nave with two aisles, and a semi-circular apse adorned with stained glass windows depicting biblical scenes. While original plans included a grand campanile tower, this was never realised due to funding, though a small bellcote sits on the south-west side. The church was established to serve the then-expanding suburbs, envisioned as an evangelical, Bible-believing presence in the area. Over a century later, it continues its role as a parish church for a significant portion of North Oxford, extending from Banbury Road to the River Cherwell. Its west rose window has become a stylised logo for the church, which actively welcomes a congregation from across Oxford and surrounding villages.
St Andrew's is more than just a historical building; it's a vibrant hub of community activity and worship. The church hosts a variety of services, including traditional Holy Communion, contemporary family worship with a worship band, and more liturgical morning worship with a choir. Committed to serving all ages, they run an active pastoral care team, Alpha courses, ministries for international students, and a monthly lunch club for retired and senior members. In 2015, the "Jubilee Project" saw the completion of a significant two-storey extension, adding a new hall, meeting spaces, youth rooms, and a café area, designed to better serve both the congregation and the wider community. This modern addition reflects the church's ongoing efforts to be a welcoming and active presence in North Oxford, offering facilities for various groups and events.
