Blue Boar Court, at 9 Alfred Street, is the new home for The Oxford Trust's Oxford Centre for Innovation as of March 2025. This address has a rich history, as the building was originally constructed in 1858/9 as the Oxford Gymnasium, a facility described in 1860 as "the best in the kingdom, if not in Europe". Now, this refurbished four-storey building offers 13,000 square feet of modern office spaces, co-working areas, and meeting rooms. It's designed to support science and technology start-ups and SMEs, providing them with a collaborative environment and resources to grow. Seven companies are already set to move into the new centre, taking up a significant portion of the available space. This new location is strategically close to the University of Oxford, fostering connections between innovators, researchers, and investors.
The Oxford Centre for Innovation provides an ideal workspace for start-up and growing companies in the science and technology sectors. It offers flexible, professional premises and a range of business support services crucial during the early years of operation. With a focus on fostering a lively environment, the centre encourages networking among its tenants through regular business events and training sessions. Beyond physical office space, it also provides virtual office packages for businesses not yet needing a dedicated office. The centre can house up to 50 companies in offices ranging from 140 to 1,500 square feet and features meeting and conference rooms available for hire by both internal and external companies. Its central Oxford location means excellent transport links and proximity to the main shopping area, restaurants, and key tourist attractions.
