Details

Two charming miniature railways, operated by the dedicated City of Oxford Society of Model Engineers, await you in Cutteslowe Park. Choose between the raised track, catering for 3½ and 5 inch gauge locomotives, or the ground level line designed for the larger 7¼ inch gauge trains. Passenger-carrying trains, pulled by a delightful variety of steam, diesel, petrol, and electric locomotives, offer rides to visitors. The society, with a history stretching back to a previous track at Blenheim Palace from 1960 to 1987, relocated to Cutteslowe Park in 1988 and has been a beloved attraction ever since. Tickets are affordably priced, with single rides typically costing £2.00 and options for combined tickets or multiple ride passes, while children under two often ride for free.

The railway operates primarily on selected Sundays from April to October, often extending to bank holidays and some Wednesdays during school summer holidays. It's a popular outing, with reports of up to 20,000 passengers enjoying the 600-yard-long railway each summer. For those with accessibility needs, a specially adapted carriage named 'Lottie' ensures wheelchair users and their carers can also experience the joy of the ride. Beyond the thrill of the trains, Cutteslowe Park itself offers a full day of family fun, boasting play parks, a sandpit, miniature golf, a duck pond, and a café for refreshments. No advance booking is usually required for the railway; simply purchase your tickets at the track-side office, with card payments preferred.
