Details

A bright, contemporary interior greets you at The Lighthouse, an independent pub conveniently located on Park End Street, a mere five-minute walk from Oxford's train and bus stations. This historic building, once known by names such as Navigation End and The Duke's Cut, reopened as The Lighthouse in 2014 and features a rustic, nautical-themed decor. You can enjoy views of Oxford Castle or relax on the small riverside terrace, a perfect spot to watch the world go by along the Castle Mill Stream. The pub has a rich history, with parts of the building standing on the remains of a Baptist meeting house destroyed in 1715. It's an ideal stop whether you're heading to a show, exploring nearby attractions, or enjoying a shopping trip at the Westgate.

The Lighthouse is well-regarded for its Spanish and pan-Mediterranean tapas, offering a social dining experience with dishes designed for sharing. The menu features fresh, locally sourced ingredients, with plenty of vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options available, including handmade cakes. Alongside a selection of craft beers, artisan coffees, and a premium spirits and wine list, the pub has gained a reputation as one of Oxford's best cocktail bars, praised for its commitment to fresh fruit and balanced flavours. Look out for "Tapas Tuesday" for two-for-one deals, or enjoy the popular happy hour for cocktails. For private gatherings, The Boiler Room offers a unique function space with its own bar and fireplace, suitable for parties or private dining.

This was a great restaurant for lunch, with plenty of menus available to browse the offerings! Speed was fine although the staff member was lacking in skills of dealing with people face to face, atmosphere is nice and relaxed by the stream. I enjoyed the spicy prawns dish with a Hot Chocolate, portion sizes are somewhat small however the leather seating was comfy.

Popped in here on the way to the station after a day out with my son as we had time before our train. So glad we did
I had the prawns and my son had Galician pork.
We also had sweet potato fries.
So good
Wish I got the bread too as the sauce from the prawns went to waste
Didn’t think it would be a good look if I swigged it from the dish
Service was great and even the music was right up my street.

To quickly describe this place, if you're into a quick bite and a drink with some friends, this is clearly a good place to come. It has good tapas, good drinks, and great service at affordable prices, especially if you get the food at order two and pay for one offer.

I think the place can be appreciated most during the evening if you manage to get a seat, but it's a nice place to visit even during the day. We had a good experience here, so I recommend it.

I had the black forest martini and it was the best cocktail i ever had. It smelled like baking with my grandma and tasted complex, fruity and fresh and at the same time chocolaty and warm. I loved it and already recommended it to my best friend.

We had cocktails and tapas here, cocktails were great and good value for money during happy hour. Tapas was lovely, lots of variety of dishes. Staff were really nice and helpful, especially Niall (we think that was his name) he was so helpful and couldn’t do more for us
