Details

Found on the banks of the River Thames, Meadow Lane Skate Park is a large, free-to-use facility designed and built by Wheelscape in 2013, the result of a long campaign by the Oxford Wheels Project. It boasts smooth, fast surfaces suitable for both beginners and experienced skaters, featuring distinct street and transition sections. The street area includes a bowled edge, stair set with a rail, a flat bank, a roll-over with an adjoining pyramid, a kicker gap, and a driveway. A long bowled edge with extensions runs alongside this section, finishing with a hipped flat bank and more stairs. The park is open daily from 10 am until dusk, though it may close during wet or icy weather, so it's wise to check before travelling.

The park's huge bowl is a standout feature, split into two halves by a spine, a roll-over, and a volcano at one end. This bowl has various depths, extensions around the edges, and a speed bowl in one corner with concrete pool coping, offering plenty of bumps and corners for pumping around without needing to push. Managed by the Oxford Wheels Project, a registered charity, the park also provides skateboard, BMX, and graffiti facilities. They offer Sunday morning skateboard coaching and Saturday morning BMX coaching, with sessions available for beginners and improvers – booking is recommended. Scooters are not permitted in the park.

A great atmosphere, a great park and great people. The older generation of skaters are there, welcoming and helping the kids, constant encouragement and support and it's creates an amazing atmosphere that allows kids to learn and grow. Boys, girls, young, older, completely new or a skilled hand, all fit in and all share the space.
Best thing is, no scooters. The lack of low talent ceiling scooter riders flinging their no talent gimpy scooters around completely transforms the vibe of the whole place. It's a place for skaters, not scooter chavs.

Well done to for building this. Great to see younger generation having so much fun and exercise on their skateboards. If I was 20 years younger I would try it! One thing that would be a good addition would be an area for smaller kids to learn...it tends to get full of older kids/adults who are very good at skateboarding but perhaps a bit intimidating for those just starting out.
