South Parade in Summertown is home to The North Wall Arts Centre, an award-winning venue that ingeniously converted a Victorian swimming pool into a dynamic contemporary performing arts space. Part of St. Edward's School but with a mission to serve the wider Oxford community and beyond, it features a flexible 200-seat theatre, a dedicated public art gallery with free exhibitions changing every three weeks, and versatile dance and drama studios. Since opening in 2007, this architecturally celebrated building, which seamlessly blends historic and modern design, has become a key cultural destination. It's recognised for its commitment to showcasing a diverse programme that includes theatre, music, comedy, dance, and visual arts, attracting around 20,000 visitors annually to over 100 events.
The North Wall champions both new and established talent, placing a strong emphasis on innovative work and providing a platform for untold stories and diverse voices. Its ArtsLab programme is central to this mission, offering residencies, mentorship, and development opportunities for early-career artists across the UK, fostering the next generation of creative professionals. Visitors can anticipate a vibrant and often thought-provoking line-up, ranging from critically acclaimed touring theatre companies and cutting-edge dance performances to live music gigs, renowned comedians, and family-friendly shows. The intimate theatre ensures a close connection between performers and the audience, while the gallery consistently presents fresh visual art, making every visit a unique experience.
