Details

A dynamic array of contemporary art from Oxford Brookes University's own students, dedicated faculty, and a range of local artists fills the Glass Tank, a distinctive exhibition space on the Headington Campus. Opened in 2012 as part of the 'Space to Think' campus development, this community-focused gallery offers a varied programme of temporary exhibitions that span numerous professional disciplines. Visitors are welcome to explore these showcases free of charge, providing a direct link between the university's creative and research endeavours and the wider public. The gallery is situated in the Abercrombie building on Gipsy Lane, presenting a vibrant window into the fresh perspectives and emerging talent within the Oxford art scene. It’s a place where new ideas and developing practices are regularly on display.

The Glass Tank actively encourages engagement with both art and research, serving as a vital platform for the university community and beyond. Its exhibition programme is designed to not only showcase the skills of current students and share the research of staff but also to promote the successes of alumni, thereby enhancing the university's reputation locally and internationally. The space itself, located on the ground floor with street-to-destination access for those with disabilities, is open from 9am to 5pm on weekdays during exhibition periods, with no booking required. Though it's noted that from September 2021 the space would also be used for teaching during semester time, its core mission continues to be providing a vibrant and accessible cultural hub for all.
