Details

Located on Magdalen Road, Pegasus Theatre has been a vibrant home for young people's creativity in the heart of East Oxford for over half a century. It’s not just a venue to see a show; it's a dynamic performing arts centre offering a wide array of workshops in drama, dance, and even technical theatre and marketing. The theatre actively collaborates with the local community, running projects to support young local artists and working with vulnerable young people. Their programme is packed with inspiring arts projects and an exciting lineup of drama, dance, and comedy, often featuring cutting-edge contemporary performances specifically for young audiences and their families. Throughout the year, you can find everything from sensory shows for the very young to thought-provoking new works and lively family dance parties.

Pegasus Theatre is renowned for its provocative productions and its commitment to exploring innovative theatrical forms, often incorporating video, film projection, music, and dance to challenge traditional ideas of what theatre can be. The organisation provides subsidised free access across its shows, classes, and cultural activities for young people and families facing socio-economic barriers, ensuring creativity is accessible to all. Originally established by Oxford Youth Theatre in 1975, the venue itself was redesigned and reopened in 2010, offering improved facilities like a 125-seat flexible auditorium, dance studio, rehearsal spaces, and a café. Whether you're keen to participate in a workshop, see an inspiring performance, or simply soak in the creative atmosphere, a visit to this East Oxford hub is highly recommended; check their website, pegasustheatre.org.uk, for the latest listings and to book.

A very nice theatre with shows going on all year round for anyone who loves acting. They also offer acting classes for this interested in the world of theatre so you or your kids can get an insight into being an actor. The only problem I have is that the café up at the top is not big enough to accommodate the large crowds the come in during s site and this can lead to you having to stand with food/drink because all of the seats are full.
Other than that it is a lovely place with great shows on all year round and that is why it deserves 4 stars.

Review of the cafe - not theatre.

A good menu, with good prices and a nice set up. However on my visit today the service was terrible. We sat there for 40 minutes waiting for one ploughman lunch. The staff were very apologetic and said how busy it was, there were many free tables however and therefore I personally don't consider that it was busy. The lunch was also missing the chutney and didn't come with bread/butter, my wife had to go and ask for it.

As said the staff were very apologetic and did say they were new.
