Details

Bury Knowle Park, a picturesque seven-hectare expanse in Headington, has welcomed the public since its opening on April 2, 1932. The historic Bury Knowle House, now home to Headington Library, provides a stunning backdrop for picnics and various events that unfold on the surrounding parkland. Adding a touch of enchantment are the Narnia-inspired sculptures and play area, making this a much-loved green space for all ages. Keen eyes might spot features like the Ha Ha tree and a grand Chestnut near the play area, remnants possibly dating back to the original landscaping of the estate. The park also boasts "The Story Book Tree," a sculpture featuring characters from C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien's tales, and "The Wheel of Hope," an artistic installation. Open all day, every day, it’s a readily accessible escape.

Visitors will find a wealth of activities, from energetic pursuits on the tennis and basketball courts to imaginative fun in the sandpits and pirate play feature. A zip wire, climbing rocks, and timber frames provide further adventure for younger visitors, while a sensory garden offers a tranquil retreat. Keep an eye out for the Aslan carving among the varied seating and picnic tables. For those looking to get active, free jogging groups meet regularly, and health walks are also on offer. The park even features a mini-golf course and table tennis. Limited free parking is available off Old High Street, with further options nearby, and the park is well-serviced by local bus routes.

There is a very well equipped children’s play area here with sandpit, zip line and lot of climbing things. The park has lots of benches and wooden sculptures. The wooden carvings have seen better days and could do with replacing. Great place to bring the kids. There’s a basketball hoop here too.
