The large 35-metre, freeform Hinksey Outdoor Pool on Lake Street offers a seasonal swim from April to September and is heated to a welcoming temperature, typically around 25 to 27 degrees Celsius, making it perfect for a refreshing dip even on cooler days. It features a gradually sloping beach-style entry, ideal for toddlers and young children to paddle and splash safely, as well as deeper sections marked off for confident swimmers and those looking to swim lengths. A central fountain adds an element of fun for all ages. Grassy areas surrounding the pool are perfect for spreading out a picnic blanket, or you can hire sun loungers. For convenience, there's a poolside cafe for snacks and drinks, and changing cubicles are located by the poolside.
Situated within the attractive Hinksey Park, the lido is easily accessible, being just a 15-minute walk or a short 5-minute cycle ride from Oxford city centre. The park itself provides additional attractions, including a play area, sandpit, and sometimes a seasonal splash park, making it an excellent destination for a full family day out. While there is some on-site pay-and-display parking, it can be limited, so arriving by foot, bicycle, or public transport is often recommended, with several bus routes stopping conveniently nearby on Abingdon Road. The pool offers various sessions, including those for lane swimming and general family fun, and is designed to be accessible for all abilities.
