Broad Street's impressive Weston Library, part of the University of Oxford's Bodleian Libraries, offers a remarkable welcome to all. Reopened in 2015 after an extensive refurbishment of the 1930s Giles Gilbert Scott building, its public spaces include the stunning Blackwell Hall atrium, where you can gaze up at the 'floating' book stacks. Here, visitors can enjoy free, inspiring exhibitions that showcase the Bodleian's rich and varied collections, from rare books and manuscripts to maps and music. The library also features a unique gift shop and a café, making it a perfect spot to pause and soak in the scholarly atmosphere. Keep an eye out for their programme of events and courses, often providing deeper insights into the treasures housed within.

The building itself seamlessly blends its original Grade II listed façade with a modern interior designed by WilkinsonEyre architects, a transformation lauded as a "hey presto moment for the city". Beyond the public areas, the Weston Library serves as a vital working library and research centre, home to the Bodleian's special collections and several reading rooms. It also houses a conservation studio, ensuring the preservation of countless irreplaceable items for future generations. While access to the reading rooms is typically for registered readers, the public can explore exhibition galleries like the St Lee Gallery for temporary displays and the Treasure Gallery, which sometimes features masterpieces from the Bodleian's collection.

Very interesting place to visit. I came here with a group to see the astrology and radio themed exhibitions. There's also a cafeteria at the entrance and the library upstairs. It was not too busy on a Wednesday afternoon.
