Details

For over 25 years, Creation Theatre Company has been masterfully transforming Oxford's unique spaces into stages for their award-winning, site-responsive adaptations of classic stories and Shakespeare. This innovative company famously operates without a permanent theatre building, instead choosing to erect Spiegeltents in car parks, perform in the historic Oxford Castle, the atmospheric Norrington Room in Blackwell's bookshop, and even amongst the escalators at Westgate Oxford. Their reputation for inventive staging and top-class acting draws audiences to experience everything from Shakespeare in the open air to festive Christmas shows at The North Wall Arts Centre. Currently, you might find them bringing classics to life in the gardens of Wycliffe Hall or even delivering Austen to your inbox.

Expect the unexpected with Creation Theatre, whether it’s a pedal-powered pop-up performance for families or a thought-provoking adaptation of a literary classic in an unconventional setting like the Oxford University's Maths Institute. They are celebrated for making Shakespeare wonderfully accessible and enjoyable, often adding humorous, contemporary touches while respecting the original text. Their summer shows are a beloved Oxford institution, perfect for a picnic and an evening of captivating theatre under the stars, or perhaps a weatherproof tarpaulin if the British weather insists. Beyond main productions, Creation Theatre also champions a love for stories in younger audiences through engaging drama clubs and holiday workshops.

This company is ingenius - saw Midsomer Night's Dream with them and was blown away by their inventive use of sites across city centre to stage scenes from the play!

Also saw their steampunk Hamlet, their Swallows and Amazons, and their Merchant of Venice - all edgy and intriguing without being to bizarre to show others.

Looking forward to seeing what they do post lockdown...
