French onion soup was nothing out of the ordinary. And Cesar salad was noting special. The staff are polite and attentful but that doesn't make up for disappointing food.
The dining room is rather dark in the evening, making the menu hard to read in the poor lighting. The design of the menu with finely printed fonts doesn’t help either.
There is an offer on the menu that’s hard to read because it’s highlighted in gold writing lthat details a mid-week offer (Tuesday to Thursday) for two selected courses for £20.
However, once you’ve selected your meal choice, it arrives in good time and is expertly cooked. The starter was a Scot h egg that was a delight to eat; full of flavour and hints of black pudding with a mustard sauce to provide some kick.
The house red is a great partner to the mixed grill with was simply delicious. I particularly liked the pairing with the creamed spinach that elevated the dish.
He made us feel so welcome and the food was great. It’s not often you come across genuine customer service.

I will point out that my dinner companions enjoyed their fishcake and ravioli. But this is supposed to be a steakhouse!
Staff professional but a smile when we came in would have been nice. They were more welcoming to a birthday party that came in a bit later. Actual serving staff were friendly.
Again, on mentioning the steak dinner problem, they gave us a few pounds off, which was appreciated and fair enough. But overall and thinking about it a couple of hours later, quite disappointing. I see mixed reviews, so it really looks like we might just have hit them on one of their bad days?
