Details

Tasty Kitchen offers an authentic taste of Southern Chinese cuisine in the bustling heart of Oxford's George Street. This family-run independent establishment, opened by Eddie Millington and his wife Chuanxing Liu, prides itself on serving traditional recipes, particularly those from Shenzhen where the family resided for a decade. Its welcoming atmosphere provides a comforting dining experience, with patrons often noting the genuine flavours that remind them of home.

The menu features a delightful array of Chinese and Cantonese dishes, moving away from overly sweetened recipes to present truly traditional tastes. Notable highlights include the fragrant Steamed Crispy Pork with Vegetables and Rice, the aromatic Curry Lamb with Vegetable and Rice, and the succulent Roast Duck with Vegetable and Rice. Other popular choices feature Salt and Pepper Chicken Wings, spicy Pork Ribs, and various satisfying noodle and rice dishes like Fried Rice with Smoked Pork and Tomato and Egg Noodles.

This charming eatery is particularly well-suited for a diverse clientele, including Oxford's Chinese community, students, and tourists eager to explore genuine regional Chinese cooking. It provides an excellent option for casual lunches or dinners, especially for those seeking a flavourful meal after enjoying the pubs and attractions of the lively city centre.

This might be my latest hidden gem in Oxford. It is a restaurant run by a honest hard working couple. The wife cooks every meal fresh if it's from the menu. Therefore, service time is slower because it's a one man band but it's worth the wait. Don't be deceived but the buffet style, I ordered a dry noodle with beef dish and pan fried pork dumplings. The beef was well marinated and the sauce was well balanced and delicious. The pan fried pork dumplings is extremely crispy on the outside and burst with juice on the inside. The best thing is the service! There is a self service station with free mung bean soup and the wife is very accommodating. I truly recommend everyone try the noodle dish and pan fried pork dumplings!

It was around 10:30 pm on a Friday, and almost every restaurant we tried told us the kitchen had already closed. We were so happy to find this place still welcoming customers.

The owner was incredibly friendly and kind, making us feel at home from the moment we walked in. Some of the dishes were available straight away, and they were absolutely delicious. If you order from the à la carte menu, it may take a little longer, but it’s well worth the wait. The food tastes genuinely authentic and homemade.

The Soup I had was DELICIOUS. The the lady who made it was so kind. You can tell the food is homemade with love and care. I got beef dumpling noodle soup and a pork bao. Plus, one of the only places open late around here. 10/10 will be back!!

Absolutely fantastic restaurant. The food was incredibly authentic, full of flavour, and clearly made with care. Every dish tasted homemade and reminded me of the kind of meal you would enjoy in a family home rather than a typical restaurant.

The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, with a genuine homely feel that made us want to stay longer. The staff were exceptionally friendly, attentive, and happy to help with recommendations, making the whole experience even more enjoyable.

If you're looking for authentic Chinese food, generous portions, and a place that feels comfortable and inviting, I couldn't recommend this restaurant more highly. We will definitely be coming back!

Positive atmosphere and food is extremely tasty. No doubts about it. Person who is behind the kitchen is like a 1 women army - taking orders, cooking fresh chinese and serving with a smile. Shop is small with a loads of positive vibe and that makes you stay there and enjoy the taste put by someones dedication and hardwork. I am personally moved by a middle aged lady , all by herself, who was working at 10:00 p.m and serving each customer with a smile. Dont go by the look of the shop or ambience. It is a gem in busy streets of Oxford, UK
