Details

The Tree Hotel at Iffley presents a charming and welcoming retreat nestled in the peaceful village of Iffley, just a short stroll from the renowned Iffley Lock. This family-owned establishment, housed within a traditional red-brick Victorian villa, offers a tranquil atmosphere, making it a delightful escape from the city's bustle. Guests can enjoy the summer terrace and a shared lounge, experiencing a blend of village charm and easy access to Oxford's historic city centre via a pleasant riverside walk along the River Isis. Ample complimentary on-site parking further enhances its appeal, especially for those arriving by car.

Dining at the hotel's restaurant, now known as Tiger Bay, offers a culinary journey through India, focusing on regional traditions rather than generic curry house fare. The menu explores the diverse cooking styles of northern, southern, and coastal India, with tandoor cooking forming a central pillar for marinated meats and breads. Slow-simmered curries, fragrant biryanis, and prominent seafood dishes inspired by coastal regions are prepared with fresh, locally sourced ingredients and a distinct balance of spices. Generous vegetarian options are also well-catered for, showcasing lentils, paneer, and seasonal vegetables with equal care.

This inviting venue is ideally suited for both leisure visitors exploring Oxford and those seeking a quieter base, offering a tranquil yet connected experience. The warm and comfortable dining room is perfect for casual weekday family suppers or more extended weekend get-togethers. Additionally, with versatile event spaces including a banquet hall, The Tree Hotel at Iffley can host a range of occasions from private parties and small weddings to conferences and business lunches.

Staff are polite and courteous. Room we stopped in was clean tidy large and modern freshly decorated even had razor and toothbrush. Tiny details count. bar serves wide range of drinks. Part of hotel is an Indian restaurant where we ate and the food was very nice. Short walk to canal which takes you directly to oxford, 35 minute walk max.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel it’s important to warn others to be extremely cautious before booking this hotel, as I found the advertising and photographs to be highly misleading.

The images online bear little resemblance to the current condition of the property. The hotel is clearly undergoing refurbishment, but this is not reflected in the marketing. Guests should expect to stay in what feels like an active building site, with carpets half ripped up, paint on carpets and plug sockets, visible iron burn marks, and refurbishment work that appears unfinished. Even the areas that have been redecorated were completed to a poor standard and do not justify the premium prices being charged.

The exterior was equally disappointing, with what appeared to be months’ worth of rubbish or possible fly-tipping in the car park, creating a very poor first impression.

The room itself lacked basic conveniences, including properly positioned plug sockets, mirrors, and an iron, making even simple tasks frustrating. Breakfast was also extremely poor and, unfortunately, inedible.

It’s such a shame because this is a beautiful village, but this hotel falls far short of the expectations created by its advertising. Until the refurbishment is genuinely complete and accurately represented online, I would strongly recommend booking elsewhere. In my opinion, the Mercure next door offers far better value and a much more honest representation of what you’re paying for.

Please be very cautious before booking if you’re relying on the photos shown online.

service reasonable enough but from.then.on awful, the whole place appears to be in a very very slow refurbishment. there's paint all over the carpets and windows. the room.was pretty small and had a bed that must have been years old and actually tilted to one side.. terrible nights sleep.
shower isn't even mains, its an electric .. in a hotel? serious...
Itvwas £80 and I was desperate.. saw it advertised for £117 later.. yiu can do sooo much better for that money

Booked two nights, room was lovely. Although the premises are under refurbishment every effort was made to make our stay a happy one. The authentic Bangladesh restaurant food was delicious and very good portion size, well worth it. Give it a try, would stay again.
